About Arizona State University
Arizona State University was founded in 1885 and it was then called Tempe Normal School. It was renamed Arizona State College in 1945, due to the fact that Arizona Board of Regents took control over it. Over the years, the college grew into the largest public research university in USA, known today as Arizona State University, having an enrolment of more than 50 000 students (2009). The university has four campuses: Tempe campus, West campus, Polytechnic campus and Downtown Phoenix campus.
The Tempe campus is located in the heart of Tempe, Arizona, east of the downtown area and it is over 600 acres in size. It is considered to be the largest campus of ASU, with more than 50 000 students enrolled here. It contains several important buildings, including Old Main (the first building constructed on campus, still in use today), Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium, Charles Trumbull Hayden Library, University Bridge and the University Club Building.
Arizona State University is highly ranked by many important education-related magazines, such as US News and World Report, Forbes magazine, Princeton Review and many others. It is among the top national universities, being the 121st of 262 universities.
